Railway vehicles
Fibre compound materials are being increasingly used in the field of railway vehicle construction. They are light-weight, stable, weatherproof and can meet high fire classifications. Moreover, as a means of transport, the railway is finding itself confronted with growing competition due to globalization.
In order to improve the competitiveness of rail, the wagons must be made lighter while at the same time maintaining uniform durability and corrosion resistance. Wagons with GRP are 25% lighter in comparison to conventional aluminium and steel structures and thus consume less fuel, are faster and are easier to dispose of.
